Since the New Year’s Day market holiday fell on January 2 for 2012, you need to modify the market holiday list in Schwab’s PortfolioCenter.
For the most accurate Time-Weighted Rate of Return (TWR) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) calculations, PortfolioCenter needs the dates the markets are closed. Normal holidays are built in to the program.
But if the markets close unexpectedly (such as a national day of mourning) or the actual holiday falls on a weekend, you may need to manually adjust PortfolioCenter, so PortfolioCenter can has the correct number of days for performance calculations.
For 2012, you need to go to the Market Holidays settings and change New Year’s Day from 1/01/2012 to 1/02/2012.
